Book Review “Dial A for Aunties”
Dial A for Aunties was originally published in April 17, 2021 and was written by the Chinese-Indonesian author Jesse Q. Sutanto. It is a book that capture the essence of Chinese-Indonesian culture and family dynamics combined with comedy, rom-com, heart-warming, and murder mystery themes.
The book follows Meddelin Chen, a wedding photographer who accidentally kills her blind date. Instead of calling the police, she turns to her overbearing but well-meaning mother and three aunts for help. Things quickly spiral out of control when the corpse ends up at a high-profile wedding the family is working on—and her college ex-boyfriend just happens to be there too.

I loved the Asian culture described in the novel and the family dynamics in this book is really wholesome. Another thing I love about the book is the aunties who can be nosy at times and has good intentions. Their actions, dialogues and comedic timings are what make the book more captivating. However, some people might find the plot a bit unrealistic at times so if you are looking for a realistic and serious book, this is not for you. Overall, this book is perfect for people who loves to read light-hearted genre and looking for a good laugh. As for me, this book was a 4.5 stars read and it was my kind of humor.
