Justin Timberlake’s DWI Case: Inside His Arrest, Charges & Guilty Plea

Two months after he was arrested in New York, Justin entered a guilty plea for his DWI arrest. Learn about the entire case, here.

Justin Timberlake quickly made national headlines when he was arrested for DUI in June 2024 while on his “Forget Tomorrow World Tour.” The dramatic situation dragged on after his DUI charge became public knowledge, even though Timberlake was fired by the Sag Harbor Police Department hours after his arrest. Following his recent confession, the pop singer admitted in a press conference that he had made a “mistake.”

Why Was Justin Timberlake Arrested in Sag Harbor?

On June 18, the “Mirrors” hitmaker was pulled over by a police officer in the Hamptons, New York. According to the arresting officer, Timberlake was pulled over for failing to stop at a stop sign and remaining in his lane while driving. The officer claimed he had bloodshot eyes and performed poorly on a standard breathalyzer test because he had refused to take a breathalyzer test three times.

Timberlake was subsequently charged with DUI and two traffic violations for failing to stop at a stop sign and remaining in his lane.

Was Justin Timberlake Drunk While Driving?

When the arresting officer pulled him over, Timberlake allegedly told the officer he had “had a martini” before getting behind the wheel.

Timberlake’s lawyer, Edward Burke Jr., released a statement to Hollywood Life following his client’s arrest.

“I will have much more to say in due course, but for now I am awaiting full discovery from the prosecution,” Burke said in a statement, adding that he “looks forward to vigorously defending Mr. Timberlake regarding these allegations.”

Justin Timberlake’s Plea Deal

Timberlake and Burke appeared in Sag Harbor Village Justice Court on September 13, 2024, and pleaded guilty. According to NBC News, the NSYNC members agreed to a deal with the court that included a plea to a non-criminal traffic violation for drunk driving. However, the judge reportedly found the deal inadequate. So he asked Timberlake if he would do 5 to 40 hours of community service in exchange for paying a $500 fine.

After signing the deal, Timberlake attended a press conference in Sag Harbor on September 13. “Many of you have followed me throughout my life, and as you may know, I try to hold myself to very high standards,” he said, adding: “I found myself in a situation where I could have made a different decision, but I’ve had time to think about it.”

Timberlake went on to call everyone not to drive, even if they’ve had “one drink.”

“I just want to say to everyone watching and listening, even if you’ve had one drink, don’t get behind the wheel of a car,” the pop singer said. “You can call a friend, you can take an Uber, there are a lot of travel apps out there, you can take a cab, there are a lot of options. This is a mistake that I made, but I hope that everyone watching and listening right now can learn from this mistake.”
