Dogpool: Life with the ‘ugliest’ dog turned Hollywood star

The transformation of Britain’s “ugliest” dog into a Hollywood star was unexpected and “surreal”, her owner said. Peggy stars alongside Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in Marvel’s latest superhero film, Deadpool and Wolverine.

Five-year-old Pug-Chinese Crested cross was cast as “Dogpool” after gaining fame last year when she was crowned ugliest dog at a national competition. Looking back on the past 18 months, Peggy’s owner Holly Middleton, from East Yorkshire, said: “I never dreamed this would happen.” “When I submitted her picture (for the ugliest dog competition), I didn’t expect it to be as successful as it was,” she added.

“I didn’t expect it to be so hard.” Peggy will later make a homecoming appearance at a cinema in Hull. She’ll meet fans at Cineworld in Kingswood. Middleton said Peggy has a “huge following” around her, but doesn’t display “diva behavior” at home.

On the contrary, the normally “modest and lazy” Pugese has “gained a bit of confidence” from the trainer who was supposed to look after her while making Deadpool and Wolverine. “She’s still the same old Peggy,” Middleton said.

The 37-year-old makeup artist said the family missed Peggy while she was away filming. “It was really, really strange not having her here,” the owner said. “I have two little boys so I missed her a lot. “We didn’t tell them where she was. It all had to be kept secret.”

“I’m so happy she’s back. We’ve missed her.” It was “surreal” to see Hollywood stars wearing it on the red carpet when Peggy debuted at the New York premiere, Middleton said. “I thought it was amazing. Peggy looked relaxed the whole time, as most people probably would if they were hugged by Ryan Reynolds.

“They really seem to love her and are so sweet with her, and as you can see… They kiss her and stroke her head. “Just enjoying every second. Loved watching them work there. “She looked so relaxed and happy.”

Middleton said that at the moment she has no further film roles planned and that Peggy is content to relax at home. “First and foremost, she’s a family pet,” she added. “She loves nothing more than to snuggle with us on the sofa or snuggle with us in bed.

” Despite Peggy’s global fame, Middleton said that Peggy was “just like any other dog you see walking around the village.” However, Peggy “loves attention” and is used to people’s attention. “When I read the comments online, they’re all so positive about Peggy and how beautiful she is.

“Before all this happened, she was getting attention just for her looks, and usually people would just nudge each other and whisper, ‘Oh, what happened to that dog?’ “Since all that has happened, the public’s perception of Peggy and whether she’s beautiful or ugly or whatever has definitely changed for the better.”
