K-pop star Rain returns in Red Swan

Rain plays a bodyguard tasked with protecting a former world-class golfer who married into a wealthy business family with dark secrets

Singer and actor Jung Ji Hoon, also known as Rain, returns to the big screen in Disney+’s new original series Red Swan, two years after appearing in TvN’s medical comedy series Ghost Doctor.

Premiering on July 3, the action romance series revolves around Oh Wan Soo (Kim Ha Neul), a former world-class golfer who married into a wealthy family that owns a fan group, and her bodyguard Seo Do Yoon (Jung), who works with the group to investigate the death of a friend.

After marrying the group’s heir, Oh gave up her golf career to head the group’s charity foundation. One day, with Seo’s help, she narrowly escapes an assassination attempt during a foundation event in Manila, Philippines. After she becomes the target of death threats herself, Oh and Seo begin to discover the wealthy family’s dark secrets.

“I’ve been a fan of director Park since I was a child,” said Jung. “We had several opportunities to work together, but unfortunately it never happened. “And I also talked to Kim about doing a project together someday, and finally we got the chance to work together. “When I read the script, I realized that I didn’t have that much to do. (My character) didn’t have many lines. But he needed to come across as strong and effective, so I worked hard to nail his tone and focused on vocal exercises first.” Chung plays a former police officer with a background in martial arts who plays a bodyguard who served as the president’s personal bodyguard.

Park revealed that Jung filmed many of the action scenes himself and performed his stunts without a double. “Jung is a master when it comes to action scenes. That’s why this series was more fun and easier to do compared to the action scenes in my previous works,” the director said. “Action scenes come with various challenges as you take turns with a stuntman, but director Jung handled it practically, so viewers can expect great results,” he said. Park said he was worried that Seo wouldn’t have enough impact in the series because he’s not the central figure in the Hwang family. “But Jung overcame this worry with his excellent acting skills,” he said, adding that Jung is a “sensitive actor who excels at expressing emotions.”

Kim said she was drawn to the romance between a bodyguard and his client. “I really enjoyed the 1992 film ‘The Bodyguard,’ so it’s interesting to see a plot like that. “And there are so many different things happening within this storyline, so I got interested as I read the different stories that unfold in each episode. I felt like I was being drawn in as I was reading the script.”
